Why is it normal to do user studies by asking consent from the users and then just uploading data silently to a server? How can we expect users to consent to the use of their data if they can’t even see what the data is? At most, apps should have a data export function that exports to user-readable format (e.g., csv files, which can be opened both by libre tools and excel), and a separate webpage where users can donate the exported data if they wish. Bonus points if a redacted version can be exported that is useful enough to be attached to bug reports.
